Values and Interventions

I found from experience that, becoming aware of what is important to us, being able to create rightful choice and navigate life is knowing the importance of values.  When we live in disconnect, we can make mistakes and experience anxiety and other assortment of behaviours.  When we live in alignment with our values, our psychological flexibility is enhanced.

In this article, the chapter draft written by Wilson and Murrell from the University of Mississippi, explores the concept of values in behavioral therapy and ACT.  It is written in a moderately academic terminology, and is a great addition to resources in understanding the dynamics and underpinning goal of therapeutic conversations.

The importance of language and navigating therapeutic sessions illustrates the importance of being able to show options to clients.  In exploring value systems, we are able to overcome obstacles and have greater acceptance.

Although a relatively long read (31 pages), and an extensive reference list, it is an interesting look into the power of values and ultimately mindfulness.
